above are just a small selection of some of my favourite outfits for the last month, the entire collection for the year so far can be viewed in my Year of Handmade flickr album, here
Oh, running behind my blogging schedule… oh well, it’s a self-imposed folly anyway, right?! 57 days to go!
This last month has been pretty intense, not so much in the wearing handmade clothes and shoes side of things, which to be honest has been just about the easiest thing going on my life! but just in the ordinary life side of things.
Obviously losing our dear Sienna has been a huge blow to the family.
In other “things”, we finally sold our old beach house, which is a good thing because it has been on the market for a LONG time… not such a good thing was the three day window in the week before Christmas; in which we had to go down, pack the house, move it, clean and clear out. Man. It was pretty crazy, but did come at just the right time when we needed some hard physical work to distract us from our sadness. We just worked our butts off for three days straight and flopped into bed late each night, exhausted, sleeping like babies.
All plonk in the middle of the pre-Christmas work/social scene, my “real” work, and of course my own Christmas present making period too… and I’l be the first to admit that I sometimes set making-goals for myself that can sometimes be quite ambitious. Basically, every spare minute has been very full and a bit stressful.
I’m not writing any of this to whinge or whine, but just stating the facts for the month. I think it’s good sometimes to acknowledge stuff, you know, not make like everything is easy-peasy, no sweat. You know how sometimes Christmas Day can be more of a relief than anything else? it was actually rather nice just to merely have practically nothing left to do, just chill with our lovely family.
Anyway, the last few days since Christmas has brought some peace and quiet and the feeling of more optimism. The last few months of my handmade challenge are going to be pretty breezy, I’m sure.
I’m actually even a little enthusiastic about making something for myself, soon… Can’t even believe I’m saying that! but … yeah!

The clothes that you make look totally awesome on you. I have been following your handmade year with great interest. Thanks for sharing everything with us.
And you work as well? Where do you get the time? You certainly set yourself a challenge with the year of handmade. And you have succeeded wonderfully.
It is always refreshing when very competent and talented people admit that they battle the same life issues us “common” folk experience…..it puts life and our lives into perspective. Thank you for this candid post Carolyn.
I always find this time of the year ‘odd’ as everyone seems to be in a rush for christmas and no matter what I do, somehow some plans get up-ended…….looking forward to seeing your makes for 2017 – your makes are so inspiring, happy new year
I’m always grateful that you take the time (and I suspected it there was precious little of it!) to share with us on this blog – what you’re making, what’s going on in your life – your walks along the beach with Sienna. I never miss a post 🙂
First…. Congratulations on the beach house sale!! And at the same time glad things are beginning to settle down for you. Also want you to know how much I continue to enjoy seeing your daily outfits. I don’t always get a chance to ‘heart’ them or comment, but do appreciate your taking the time to post your daily wear. You’ve done so well this year with all handmade and with such a short time left, should be easy coasting for you. Ooooooo….. look forward to seeing what creative awesomeness you make for yourself next!!! 🙂
Things seem to all happen at once, don’t they? It’s very hard and stressful to have so much to do in such a short time. Congratulations on the sale of your beach house!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and wishing you all the best for 2017. What a great way to end 2016 with the sale of your beach house – congratulations! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of your makes in 2017.
So true- it can be a relief to acknowledge when times are tough. I find it makes it easier to work through them. Thanks for sharing, good luck on the road ahead, and happy holidays! love, Claire
Yep, I have two Christmases in my head – the magical, Santa filled one from my childhood which still excites me when it comes around and then the frantic stressful adult one, which I’m beginning to think isn’t what it’s all about! Anyway, sorry to hear about Sienna, I’m a pet person myself and it’s basically crap – but it sounds like you’re on the road to recovery. Congrats on the sale of your beachhouse, hope 2017 brings lots more good things for you. Thanks for sharing with us all, your posts are great.
I’m glad you had distractions, especially ones involves a sweat cleanse. Congratulations on that sale. Your outfits are great – how can you resist not wearing them all at once! Hahaha. There is such huge appeal to a well-made, hand-made garment, and you have the best selection.
It is so inspiring to see your handmade wardrobe especially now your shoes are included. I look forward to seeing what challenge you set yourself in 2017.
