Mum and Dad’s; a travel wardrobe…

So as hinted previously, I have just returned from a long Easter weekend entire week away.  How did that weekend stretch out so long???  Oooh I have no idea! but I am not complaining! 😀

Time away: 7 days
Where to: my parents’ house in the bush
Season: early autumn.  Hot days, and beautiful and fresh in the evenings, daytime highs from lovely 28C right up to a roasting 34C
Expected activities: LOTS of bushwalking, smidge of campfiring and flying-foxing (yes, really!), a coupla forays into town and one big family dinner at a semi-swisho country restaurant for a special anniversary dinner for my brother and sister-in-law.  Meeting a friend for lunch.
Colour scheme: mostly bush-and-dirt friendly olive, khaki and moss green, with the freshness of white and one shot of hot pink for fun and colour

What I packed: (click on each garment name to link to its original construction post)
(left to right; top to bottom)
4 Tshirts, here and here
(below) summer pj’s
hiking boots
smarter lace-up booties
ugg boots
thongs
not pictured, but I also took a selection of my handmade underwear and bathers

Verdict:  Mum and Dad had mentioned that they had experienced a few cold nights, thus the packing of the corduroy jeans and ugg boots … and then of course we had hot weather! only one morning and evening did I put on the black corduroy jeans but pretty soon took them off again for something cooler and easier to get about in.  I needn’t have bothered with them!!! but better safe than sorry I guess  ðŸ™‚
Everything else was great.  My dark olive khaki hiking pants were worn and worn, until I felt they could have walked around the property all by themselves!!  My new wool felt cardigan was fantastic in the evening.
Nit-picking; I could have done with a few different tops, as in a bit more variety in styles.  I do get bored with my choices when I’m away, particularly when I pack lots of the same; in this case, plain Tshirts.  But actually plain Tshirts were the ideal thing for the kind of holiday this was.
My daily outfits:

I know you guys will like this photo  ðŸ™‚
Hiking boots and hand-knitted sockies

Old photos: but part of the holiday outfit batch.  I don’t think the first photo has ever appeared here on my blog.  That was part of me-made May, last year…

  1. I do see where wardrobe planning or capsules are working so well for you, especially when it comes time to pack – which is always so hard for me. I tend to overpack and its frustrating. I need to follow your lead.

  2. Great capsule! Looks like you had a lovely time x

  3. Your travel wardrobe posts are my favorites! I enjoy seeing what you pack, it's always hard for me to figure out what to take along. Having just returned from a vacation I am thinking about these things for next time.

  4. I agree great capsule wardrobe and fantastic pictures looks idyllic

  5. It looks like a wonderful Easter break. And, of course, you were perfectly dressed for it:-)

  6. Kangaroos!! I do love that photo.

  7. Season: early autumn

Hmmmm, you have already spring, summer and autumn, but we still in winter time!%((((

    I like your cargo trousers!%)))

  8. Starting to think about what to wear in France in a few weeks… My colour for April is taupe and I only have a few pieces, it being a tough colour to find in charity shops. May throw the colour scheme out the window and just pack navy or something! You wear the strangest colour combinations and they work so well for you! Inside Out Style blog (do you know that one?) recently did posts on neutral colours for brunettes, cool and warm blondes and for redheads. I so envied redheads their colours! Fortunately I love cool blonde neutrals too, and it was good to have some one explain why I look terrible in 'camel' and 'caramel'. We'll have a few day trips to Paris and I'm thinking I need something a bit nicer for then, even if it's just some scarves thrown in!

  9. Looks like a great weekend wardrobe – so many options.

  10. I love the gorgeous scenery! It is so cool to see "Countryside" in other parts of the world … I am amazed at your light packing. Do you do laundry while there? This is a skill I need to develop…

  11. What a great wardrobe you put together for your trip. Very efficient and so cute! I love the Kangaroos!!! :O). Can't imagine getting to see those loose like that!

  12. You are very good at wardrobe planning and have some fab clothes to wear. I love the kangaroos too!

  13. I also love your travel wardrobe posts. What a perfect vacay and you looked great! Just the right amount of nice, but still casual. Thanks for sharing! (And I love the pic of the kangaroos. Such a predictable non-Aussie…)

  14. Sounds like a very relaxing break!

  15. Some gorgeous pics there. Always nice to see the bush shown so beautifully. Love the way to do a colour theme with your packing. I just throw things in a bag. You have made me give it more thought.

  16. Another who enjoys your travel posts and style. You have a knack in packing wonderfully coordinated capsules!

  17. I love your packing posts. I particularly like it that you are not just showing fancy clothes for swanning around in, but clothes you can actually use for practical, energetic activities in addition to the more glam pieces. You look terrific in all your outfits.
I appreciate the effort you put into your posts. I meant to do a travel wardrobe post when I went to Tasmania, but with being on holidays, I just felt too lazy to do it. I'm glad you're not as lazy as me 😉

  18. Great photos! You are right, the kangaroos are just lovely!
Back to the packing. I should learn from you! I just pack everything, but then sometimes I have to take a flight, cabin luggage suitcase, and take along things I never use… I need to revise your packing posts before the next flight!
I like very much the colour thing. And now I´m off to google what is flying-foxing!

  19. Such a beautiful capsule wardrobe. I love he color palette. I'll take one of everything, please! If you lived closer I would hire you to make my entire wardrobe. I love the beautiful simplicity of the pieces you make.

  20. S'mores and Kangaroo's! Wonderful. Oh, and the clothes were nice too.

  21. Love this post. As ever fab photos, love the shot by the fencing and the kangaroos. Really like the capsule holiday wardrobe, as I live in a small cottage with hardly any wardrobe space, I swear by the capsule wardrobe theme, it really works everything goes with each other.

  22. Hello Carolyn – firstly I love the out and about photos – absolutely gorgeous. And secondly, I love your flat lay of clothes – actual real clothes that a real person wears to do real things. Bravo.

  23. Love the color combo! And the pics are awesome as always. 🙂

  24. Looks like a fun trip!!

  25. I love your travel wardrobe posts. They inspire me to do better when I go away. Animal discussion on the side: how wonderful that you get to see kangaroos in their natural setting! The biggest animal I have seen wild in the UK is a deer. Just not as exciting somehow – unless kangaroos are commonplace to you? By the way I looked up your cargo trousers post. Thank you for the tips on working with ripstop. I suppose it stands to reason being tough it will be tough on my precious tools!

    • thank you Philippa! In the country like at my parent's place here, kangaroos are a very common, several-times-a-day encounter; where I live less so! Although there is a little island, very near our house that you can bike to, which has a small kangaroo colony.

  26. Another wonderful travel wardrobe. I will be trying to emulate your planning next time I go away.
Loved the picture of the roos! I hope Sienna didn't miss you too much while you were gone.
By the way, who takes your photographs – they are always wonderful.

    • thank you! 99.9% of the time I take my own photos, using a tripod and a remote control. A rare exception is the shot with the grey striped Tshirt and cargoes above, which was taken by my husband (following my strict directions, poor man) during our walking holiday last year.

  27. Thanks for sharing your travels with us again. Good to see Skippy and his mates are still around.

  28. That's a great capsule. I just adore that billowy white skirt!
And those are actual wild kangaroos???? How cool is that????

  29. Oops… I meant the long layered lacy skirt! Well, I do love the billowy white shirt, too. Actually, would you ever wear them together? A long layered lacy billowy white outfit!
