Useful shoes

I know what people might be thinking; does she even have any other shoes?  Well, of course I have.  People who visit this blog regularly will know I have a veritable plethora, in fact the last time my mother visited and I mentioned a desire for a pair of new black high heeled boot/shoes, something that had go with dresses and jeans, I think I might have overheard something about Imelda Marcos mentioned in muttered undertones.
So I abstained.
Happily, these shoes do seem to go well with both dresses and jeans, and are very comfortable for dog-walking and well, all my daily activities.  They are my current favourites.  But I should try to mix it up more, true.  My other shoes will be getting jealous.
While the shirt is a recent creation I made my skirt years ago.  The fabric is handwoven by Mum so it is quite precious to me.  I just love the lower fringe of warp ends.  She was slightly horrified I didn’t hem them under properly, but I like how they look and wanted them on view!

A quick styling note: (not that I am any styling expert, hehe…)The top of this skirt usually sits at medium hip level, and the lower “fringe” sits at about about knee length.  But for today I swivelled the zip around to the front, overlapped the open zip and hoinked the top together with a safety pin so it is sitting up at my waist level, which has shortened the skirt to a length which I think looks better with these shoes….  And I don’t think you can even see the slight fold in the front of the skirt, can you?

Details:
Shirt; I used elements of several patterns to get the look I had in mind, so I’m going to call it my own design.  Black cottony stuff, and the dress-making details are here
Skirt; Vogue 7303, fabric of various yarns woven by Mum
Belt; from a long gone pair of cargoes
Tights; Kolotex
Shoes; Francesco Morichetti, from Zomp shoes
Sunnies; RayBan

  1. The fabric is awesome; I don't think I would have hemmed it either. Way better to show off the handmade quality that makes it special.

  2. Very special skirt, with its organic looking fringe. I would have left it also. Isn't it funny the "rules" we learn from our mothers? I learned "no sleeveless at work"….hahaaaaa no air conditioning at work for much of my tenure.

Back to you though. I love the last 2 skirts and enjoy seeing your shoes too 🙂 Wish I could have participated in this challenge but life is too hectic right now. I have 4 PR reviews waiting too!

  3. I love this shot. The sky looks really pretty. The shot in twirled is really nice, too. The clouds look really cool. The lighting is interesting in both shots.

Nice shirt. How clever how you thought to hike the skirt up a bit. It is a nice length with these shoes.

How amazing is your mom that she weaved the fabric for the skirt. You two are unreal with all of your talent. You both never cease to amaze me. Is there anything ya'll (Texan for you-all, pronounced yaw) can't do?

I agree with you that the hem looks great with the fringe showing.

  4. the skirt looks great with the tights and top,and shortened is better. Not sure if I've seen those particulalr shoes before!(just kidding) Love Mum

  5. Love the outfit – and that is so awesome that your mother also weaves. I took a weaving class once; the process takes a good while. That is so cool to be able to wear something woven by your mom!

  6. As always, you are beautiful, the detail of the hem of her skirt just makes it more interesting. Because mother has a mania for perfectionism? kkkk.

    A happy weekend for you.

  7. amazing fabric for your skirt, how wonderful your mom wove it. Great styled outfit and such a pretty backdrop for your picture.

  8. I remember my dad muttering something about Imelda Marcos when I was a teenager. My husband doesn't understand it, either.

Love that skirt. I think the fringe at the bottom is the best part. And how awesome is it that the fabric is handwoven by your mother? That makes it a work of art.

  9. Your outfit is lovely. I like the edge on the skirt too. It is beautiful fabric.

  10. I am so impressed with the hand-woven skirt. Is this a skill that mother has passed along to you?

  11. Thank you!
Terri, I have woven some things, but not since I was a teenager living at home with my parents. My Mum still has her loom though.

  12. Hmm, I like this, simple and sleek and elegant.

You know, I think the cord jeans look fine. But then again, I am known to wear the adidas soccer shorts quite a bit (i.e days I'm not blogging, though today I actually have on my fitted purple t and magenta shorts, so not quite EVERY day) just saying, casual and comfy is fine and you do it way better than I do!
