Not your daughter’s dress

Me-Made-March, Day 4.
OK.  Want.  Autumn.  Now.  If I look less than cool, calm and collected here, it is because I am.  Less than, I mean…
I’m actually wondering if I should give this dress to Cassie.  She looks so much nicer in it than I do…  well, she is at the age when everything looks a lot nicer on her, and will do forever after from now on, I already accepted that a few years ago.
I still like this dress, and I feel good in it.  It’s comfortable and cool, (silk chiffon is wonderful for hot days) and I think it looks not awful on me.  But I also have this thing where if something doesn’t look like it belongs to me, then perhaps I should pass it on.  After all, as I learned in Self-Stitched September, and am re-learning again in Me-Made-March, I have heaps and heaps of clothes, all made by me, so that I could probably do several months of this challenge and not double up.  However not all the things hanging in my wardrobe are super wonderful on me.  Lately I’m feeling indifferent about just about all my stuff… I wonder if it is time for a clean-out?
Although perhaps tomorrow the hoped-for cool change will refresh and revitalise and reinvigorate, and there is a chance I will love my clothes once more.  Fingers crossed…

  1. The dress looks really nice on you, but I understand how you feel. I have occasional clean ups when I pass to my friends and families perfectly good garments I don't feel like wearing anymore.

  2. It's a pretty, feminine dress and it certainly does look nice on you. Though I've noticed most things look nice on you! You have a slim balanced figure. I'm busy thinking how unfair this is as I drink milky, sugary coffee!

  3. Are you kidding? It looks great on you! Go read the blog Advanced Style – LOL. That will reframe things for you – you are a vibrant beautiful young woman, with many years more ahead.

  4. You look wonderful in that dress! Don't be too quick to dispose of things, (although if it's only moving to your daughter's closet, it could easily be snagged back). I'm in the habit of "tossing" everything that doesn't look right at the moment, only to end up with nothing to wear and regrets later of having given away this or that.

  5. The dress looks fab on you – a definite keeper! I think it is useful to have plenty of these easy-wearing hot day dresses in summer too.
Whenever I have a clean-out of my wardrobe, I always regret disposing of a few things! Although if it's going to your daughter it's not quite as permanent.

  6. I still love this dress on you, but I also understand how you feel. I just went through all the things I made last year. I let some things go that I just didn't feel excited about. I am looking forward to new creations this year!

  7. Definitely not your daughter's dress – unless she can be trusted to give it back when needed? I love these colours on you, and the dress is a perfect shape for your tall slim figure.

  8. I'm thinking that the oppressive heat must be distorting your perceptions – it looks great!! So, with the sleeves, did you use them as per pattern or did you modify them – I recall that last time you thought they were sad and droopy??

  9. I love the dress ON YOU! I think the heat is just messing with your head. Fight it! Keep your clothes til you've cooled down. 🙂
My parents are visiting in a couple weeks and said they are looking forward to the cold weather here. I told them it'll probably turn hot here now when they arrive! 😉

  10. I hate it when my daughters wear my things – they always look better. Still you do look great in this dress yourself.

  11. Not that I've set a coat hanger aside in my wardrobe waiting but I've always loved this dress and even said to Chris as we were walking to dinner that I really wanted this dress for myself!!!! But don't feel pressured by others to let it go or keep it, its solely up to you.

  12. LOVE that dress. This has got to be my favorite one you've made so far. Gosh how do you have time to make so many things? I swear you make something new to wear every single day! I'm impressed, I wish I could sew that fast.

  14. I've been browsing online more than 4 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.
