And something else looks familiar too… oh that’s right, I have shown this dress here before already. But there has been a small but significant alteration… can you spot it?

I wore this dress for the first time on the day I photographed it for my pattern review with a little camisole on underneath; and all was hunky dory. Didn’t notice anything amiss. Then the weather warmed up more, and the second time I wore it out without any insulating, protective layer on underneath… and woooaaatch-y! Those tough-guy industrial-strength brass zipper teeth might look super cool but they turn nasty when scratching up against soft and tender tummy skin!
Urgent action was required… fortunately I had a strip of leftover fabric.
I’ve added a full-length zip placket. Actually, I think it was pretty dumb of me not to think of this in the first place, hehe. I concede that. Doh. Well, I’ve thought of it now. Better late than never, no?
Much more comfy now!
I’m amending my review; and most importantly: must remember to tick that box “minor update only”. It’s embarrassing when you forget to tick that, yes?? Your review shoots right up to the top of the heap, and it’s like there is no. Going. Back.
Woops. Oh sorry about that, people; I’m not really trying to force the same review on y’all twice. Really. I’m not. Hehe. (cringe)

That ripper is so big. What is it? An ornament? Where?
Oh, your dress! What a fine idea! Much more comfortable now, but what amazes me is that you still had some leftover fabric! I have to remember to keep some too for cases like this!

Hehe, it is a pretty awesome seam ripper, isn't it?! It is in a park on Adelma Rd in Dalkeith. I've wanted to use it in a photo for ages, and an altered dress seemed the perfect time! 😀
I didn't even see the seam ripper until I read the comments from waikikimum and you and go back up to see the picture again 🙂
as always thanks for the idea (of considering to add zipper "plackets" even when pattern don't indicate one – a term i've seen around before but never thought of what it could be). 🙂

Ah, yes, the exposed metal zipper. I put one in the back of a knit dress last winter and they are equally uncomfortable along the spine. It's a knit, though, so I can't add a placket. My solution is to wear a camisole underneath. Thankfully the neckline isn't very high in the back. This is a gorgeous dress, BTW!
It's a lovely dress, and I'm glad it is now a comfortable one. But I must know more about that seam ripper–why is it there?
Interesting, I thought the pattern would have the zipper shield included, so well done on solving the comfort issue. Love the giant seam ripper and not sure when I will get back to Perth, but another thing to add to my list of "to do".

Great idea. I must add one of those to my dress with the exposed zip down the back. I keep finding it a bit awkward to sit down as the zip rubs on the back of my legs and damages my tights

Thanks! KC; the seam ripper is one of several pieces in the park that represent "hobbies"; there is also a hammer, a violin, a pencil; and maybe even a few more that have slipped my mind right now…. I'll have to go and check to be sure.
OMG, it's a giant seam ripper! That is so cool.
I looked at this earlier and didn't get it was a seam ripper.. luckily my brain was focused on my exam! Great save but I miss the little opening at the bottom of the zip! I love the contrast of the "heavy" zip look with the delicate lace.

Blimey, what an interesting idea for a sculpture…. I wonder if most people would know what it is. I mean, if ten years ago I'd have seen that, I'd have thought it was a farming or cooking implement.j

Like everyone else (it seems), I didn't notice the seam ripper! What a brilliant sculpture, love it. Great save on the dress, just thinking about a brass zipper next to sensitive skin-ouch. So good you had some of the fabric left over.
I have to say, the seam ripper is the first thing I did notice which is probably because mine is blue. I was a little surprised though, to see such a sculpture.

What a great photo prop! You have the most interesting photos, Carolyn. I love seeing what you'll post next. Great save on the dress, btw. It's always a pain to re-do something to get it just right, but every time I do, I'm thankful I did!
I never saw the first review on this, so a new one for me – have to say I love the dress – great save with the zip guard.
