neutrals

Yesterday I met up with my usual group of friends for morning tea, and today I met up with another group of different friends for another morning tea!  It’s been gorgeous; a delightfully sociable start to the week.  I’m giddy with chatting!
Outfit thoughts; I have spent the day alternately feeling too hot and then too cold in this skirt.  Something about faux leather does that, I think, and particularly because I followed the pattern and made the waistband to be a one-piece fold-over, and thus have the leather to the inside, as the inner waistband facing as well.  Now I’m wise as to how faux leather feels against the skin (kinda yucky) I’m thinking of altering this so it has a fabric waistband facing  … at some mythical point in the future when I don’t have any other sewing plans.  HAHAHA!!  Oh dear…. no other sewing plans.  I crack myself up sometimes.

min 15C, max 25C, sunny, then cloudy, then a measly few mm of rain

Details:
Shirt; Vogue 1248, beige silver polka-dotted cotton, details and my review of this pattern here
Cardigan; my own design of coffee and white net, pre-dates my blog, but seen first here
Skirt; Vogue 1170, faux leather,  details and my review of this pattern here
Shoes; Enrico Antinori

If you’re wondering where my usual photo companion is? well she is here, but not right here. She’s just out of the frame today  ๐Ÿ™‚

Updating my unsuspecting family’s participation in MMM13, Craig is wearing this shirt again today; modified Burda 7767, blue cotton, details here
He can wear a shirt a few days in a row you see, since he changes to spend most of his day in scrubs.  This is a huge bonus to the laundry-maid of the house.

21 Thoughts on “neutrals

  1. I'm loving all the photos! Tea with friends is the best too ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I know what you mean about too hot and too cold. I once had a leather skirt and felt exactly the same way about it.

I've been meaning to ask about the man's shirt pattern you use. I am thinking of making my partner a linen shirt. Years of being in the paras have left him with a very broad chest but relatively slim waist and hips. A lot of shirt patterns are described as slim fitting which doesn't sound like they will suit his figure. Do you think the Burda pattern you use would be suitable? Also do you have any tips about how to adjust for fitting issues? I am thinking in particular that the neck may need altering.

    • Jane; Burda 7767 I think is quite loose-fitting, but without seeing your husband I have no way of knowing if it will suit him. My advice when fitting a man for a shirt; the key measurements are the shoulder (yoke) width, the circumference of the neck, the biceps measurement, and the chest measurement, taken around his body just underneath the armpits. Yes, quite different than those for a woman! Once you've cut pieces according to these measurements, and tacked them together, you can check if it will need narrowing in the body, into the hips or not (sounds like you will need to do this)
I've also heard good things about Vogue 8889 which has sort-of princess seams (I know, "sounds" completely unsuitable for men, but I think it could work well for fitting) and Vogue 8759 which has two vertical seams in the back, which would aid in fitting to a narrow waist too.
      I hope this helps!

    • Thank you, great advice. I just love the online sewing community

  4. Love all the neutrals and interesting about the faux leather against the skin.

  5. Love that skirt ! Having neutrals in one's wardrobe is such big plus, especially when you have to dress up in a hurry !

Btw, I am beaming with envy of about your consecutive tea dates with girlfriends ! I don't have many ever since I moved here to KL , would love to have few and sip a warm cuppa in old town white coffee , and chat on for hours!

  6. Love the cardi details! I love neutrals! It's great to have so many good friends to meet up for a cup of tea!

  7. You picked a beautiful color for the skirt.

  8. A very beautiful outfit. I like the combination with the faux leather skirt, a firm material, to the very feathery jacket.
Besides Iยดm a admirer of your fabulous photos!

  9. Much as I love colours – in fabrics, threads, yarn, paintings, etc., I do love neutrals, too. So restful – and so useful! I know I'm slightly odd in thinking of greens as a neutral when decorating the house. In my brain the garden demonstrates this: most plants have green whatever their other colours and it all looks great together, right? But then I'm strange, I know. It's beautiful and sunny here – I'm wearing a skirt and sandals, but it's not actually that warm (a wool cardi as well).

  10. Haha, one day I hope to be wealthy enough to no longer be the laundry-maid of my house. Here's hoping. : )
