blush pink twist top

blush pink top 3
Ok, so; new top.  Running down ye checklist…

It’s blush pink.  Blush pink is so hot right now!  Note; ticks “colour so trendy it hurts” box

It’s twisty. Twisted is ME!   Note; ticks “my kinda thing” box

Do I need it?  well, it’s still winter and freezing cold and the thing is; I still do not have very many long sleeved Tshirts.  If I had a wardrobe gap, and of course I don’t really have a wardrobe gap since I sew for myself… anyway, IF I had a wardrobe gap then long sleeved Tshirts would be the nearest thing to it.  Note; ticks “useful and needed thing” box.

Pattern, the twist top from Pattern Magic, the conceptual fabric and pattern manipulation book by Tomoko Nakamichi.  This is my fifth version of the twist top, it’s another one of those patterns which I seem to make up a new one every year.  Previous versions are here, here, here and here.  With the exception of version one, which was my wearable muslin and which I eventually threw out because the fabric was too thin to suit the design really, I wear all of them quite frequently in winter and LOVE them.

Fabric; a ponte, slightly sponge-y and with a crinkle-y, crepe-y textured surface, from Fabulous Fabrics.  And, even though blush pink is NOT my colour and I can already hear my mum telling me NO! Carolyn, pink does you NO favours! well blush pink is a big trend for spring and I just kinda wanted it, illogically and randomly.  Something trendy and up to the minute.  This one may not turn out to be a staple like its big sisters because, you know; Me, plus Pink, equals “oh my god are you ok? you look so tired…” but there’s no doubt it will get at least a few outings this winter and spring.  Hey, I can always dye it  🙂

  1. I love it … I think this is my favourite version so far … maybe it’s the texture and thickness of the fabric that really enhance the drape – or at least that’s how it looks like from here

  2. I love your twist top, and it almost makes me pick up my Pattern Magic book and try it 🙂 Soon, soon. Your post is inspiring and leaves me wondering, did you make the dog too???

  3. I love this top, too. The firmer material seams to give a little stiffer drape which is quite interesting. I love your other rwist tops, too. They are all so chic. Maybe I should buy that book? (Is it a strange feeling to wear that twisting fabric?) 🙂

    1. thank you SaSa! I find them very comfortable; however I am pretty used to wearing this style by now! I do have to pull down the long side every now and again because it has a tendency to creep up slowly 🙂

  4. Pastels are so in and so lovely and you did well to find some pastel fabric, I haven’t seen a lot around. As for the outfit? Stunning as usual.

  5. My trick for wearing colours that are outside my pallet is to wear a scarf in a colour that does work with my skin tone. This is the only way I can wear Browns oranges yellows etc. I love blush pink but am yet to join that party!

  6. Another great twist top. I promise to try it myself after each of yours – maybe this is the year! I really like the blush pink on you. I’m sure you could dye it – but please don’t. Or at least give it a good try first.

    1. thank you! I’m definitely keeping it as this pretty colour for at least this season, I do really love the colour 🙂

  7. The Twist Top is beautiful ! Where can i buy the pattern for Twist Top ?
    Thank you
    Emma

    1. Hello Emma, the pattern for the twist top is in the Japanese book; Pattern Magic, by Tomoko Nakamichi

  8. I am going to respectfully disagree with your mother – I think that blush is beautiful on redheads. (I am a child of the 80’s and Molly Ringwald wearing pink is firmly imprinted on my mind!). Really lovely top!

    1. Thank you! and yes, I’ve always loved pink, and wearing it too, much to my mother’s chagrin! We all pick our rebellions. 🙂 I’ve always loved dressing my strawberry blonde daughter in pink and now she hardly ever wears it, maybe that’s her rebellion!

  9. I want this top except it’s not a good look when one is bustular alas! A waistline like yours deserves to be shown off and this top looks fab on you Carolyn.

  10. I dislike pink intensely because people always used to tell me that it does not suit redheads. So I was all: If I can’t wear it, I’ll just have to hate it… Now that I have a redheaded little girl who adores pink, I can actually see that there are some shades of pink (even blush pink) that look fabulous on redheads. I think if the blush is a more peachy shade it’s actually more suited to redheads than any other hair colour… And for the record. I think you look lovely!
