So a new year brings with it a new round of birthday prezzies to be conceived.
For M’s birthday I made her this little evening bag. It is made out of some leftover silk hessian (remember the heather purple dress?), with sparkly net overlay (remember the light summer cardigan?), velvet ribbon trimming and with pale pistachio green satin piping and lining. I used a couple of large silver rings for handle loops and I sewed in one of my own labels, for fun.
I enjoyed making this bag, I think it’s cute and it was a lot less time consuming than the tea cosies of last year….

This evening bag is adorable 🙂
Very cute! And I love your idea for the handles.
Very cute!! I love both its color and design.
Oh, it's so adorable. Okay. I'm putting my order in. My birthday is coming up, you know? lol
Beautiful bag!
Dumb question: how do you wash the silk hessian? I loved the skirt you made from this fabric, too – do you have to dry clean it?
There's no such thing as a dumb question!! No, I wouldn't dryclean that skirt, but give it a gentle handwash. Sometimes the dye in these Indian silk hessians has a tendency to run for the first few washes, so its best to wash separately from other colours, too… After I've been wearing something for a few seasons and I think the dye has settled down I start to machine wash on a "handwash and delicates" cycle that I have on my machine which has proven itself to be pretty good with delicates.
