I have made another birthday shirt, this one for Mum.
The pattern is Vogue 1247. Yup. This is the seventh butterfly to emerge from this particular pattern and wing gracefully away from my sewing machine. Yowzer. This could be a record, even for Miss Repetitive (ie. me)….
Man. I need to traverse fresh paddocks.
But in the meantime, Mum had mentioned she really like this top, so … 🙂
Mum tried on the two versions of this top I had made for myself and decided she liked the fit so I just made the same size and lengthened it by about 2.5cm at her request.
The fabric is is Rowan’s shot cotton in Granite, with a pink warp and a periwinkle blue weft.
All the seams are French seams, and I did the lower hem differently this time… the way it is explained in the pattern is just slightly on the unnecessarily-difficult side in my opinion, when it needn’t be. Instead of the stay-stiching and the trimming, I just folded a narrow hem under twice, pressed, pinned and stitched. So much more simple, and yes, it was a heck of a lot easier to turn under too!
Mum made her own white trousers, and her scarf is Metalicus.
It's the best kind of pattern that can be used over and over!
I think you may be indirectly responsible for a lot of this pattern being made! It's because of you that I made one, and I know I'm not the only one. I am still on the lookout for some of that shot cotton, again, because of you.
Tell your Mom I think she looks great in this top and the colours she is wearing in the photo really suit her.

I never get tired if this pattern. It s so simple in shape but with a designer touch, just my sort of pattern and you have just proven its success on all ages. Great blouse once again!
I have just acquired this pattern! We get this terribly muggy weather between Nov and Feb here at the coast where I live. This pattern is going to work overtime as it looks great and I'm sure will be cool and airy enough to get through the next few months.

I am the one who has been lurking and reading your blog for some time. I finally decided to come forward after someone made some unkind remarks. Your blog has convinced me to buy Shape Shape and Drape Drape and a number of other patterns that look so much nicer than what the hand drawn pictures do. This top is stunning example. I love it. Vogue is on sale this week at Hancock's (USA) for $3.99 (US DOLLAR) so I plan to get one tomorrow. Keep up the great blog, wonderful photo's and sewing tips. I recently inherited four huge boxes of patterns from the 60's and 70's. I am going to have to go through and see if there is anything in there you might like to use. They are one size patterns and not my size, the sizes 8-12 (USA) which looks near your size. I will keep you posted.

Your Mum looks great in this. What a lovely Mum and Dad you have. I also made this top in the summer, mostly down to your reviews. I intend to remake it – not something I normally do, but its a pattern I really like. No real fitting issues and I like all the French seams.
