Obviously I’m not in Australia hereโฆ. ๐ we’ve been visiting Japan, and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing my friend Yoshimi again. Thank you Yoshimi, it was so lovely to spend time with you and to meet your gorgeous family too. It was lots of fun!
Sorry for my silly photos here. Snow is still such a huge novelty to me, you see. I can’t stop marvelling at it. It seems like such amazing and magical stuff! and maybe it puts me in a kinda loopy mood ๐ I never even saw snow until I was in my late 20’s, and first put on a pair of skis at the age of 36. Meaning, I’ll never be anything more than a really slow and cautious skiier, but I still love it! My quads are killing me, but!!
Now for the point of this post: hand-warmers. Bright ones! Highlighter hand-warmers! These are brand new, fresh off the 2mm bamboo dpn’s. I lost my ultramarine blue arm-warmers last year, I’ve searched and searched and searched, in vain (massive sad-face). No time for moping but; I needed some more, pronto! These were cast off in the nick of time to be pressed into immediate serviceโฆ. ๐
They are basic tubes knitted in the round with a gap for my thumbs, using Morris and Sons 4ply merino wool. The colourway, Sheen (col419) is kind of a whoa! in-your-face colour, like a hi-vis construction worker vest. In my present surroundings though, I’m considering that to be a plus. If I get stuck and incapacitated in a snowdrift I can just stick my arm up, and the arm-warmers will be like a beacon for the rescue crew. In-built safety feature!
Ahem; and now, a silly little haikuโฆ

Cute! I love handwarmers. Must knit a new pair – my daughter claimed the first pair ๐
Oh I love these photos, you're so cute! I love your new hand-warmers too. The color is just pretty and also would be very visible in the snowy wonderland as you say. Thank you, Carolyn, from me too, it was really great to spend time with you here in Japan. I mean really great!
So cute !
Oh…….. the pictures are so great … like art!
I think it was a good time in Japan.
Christine
My son had to write haiku's in school this year…. between you and me, I think you did a better job! LOL!! The handwarmers are cute!
I love writing haikus – they are much easier than the usual poetry (then again I doubt mine are very good). Japan isn't a place I've visited before and I can't say it's high on my list though we have a friend who absolutely loves it. I lived in ski country (Salt Lake City) for four years and I do not like downhill skiing. The potential for injury seems too high and my balance isn't that great. I hate losing things I love. I lost an Agnes B cardigan over the holidays and I'm still grieving it, though it was on it's last legs (or should that be arms – sorry….).
Very nice. I am like you – never experienced snow until I was 25 and in Europe. Enjoy Japan
Great photos, Carolyn! Those handwarmers look really useful!
I adore that first photo of you, it's very editorial! ๐ Love love love the colour of your handwarmers too! It's a lovely simple thing but I really like how there's a LOT of room above the thumb for your hands. Methinks I may need some of these myself ^_^
Very fun handwarmers – they are nice against the black (and white!) backdrop. We have snow about half the year – which means I've spent half my life looking out at the bleak white landscape. Ugh (:
Oh we both started skiing about the same time! Love the bright coloured arm warmers but what about your fingers? Have a great time!
hehe, I then put three pairs of gloves on over the hand-warmers!
I think I started skiing a little bit later (in ernest anyway). Love those handwarmers. I must look into making myself a pair. So great that you had a lovely holiday.
HAHAHA…I saw your piccies and wondered what the flipping hell was going on in your part of Aus! We've got a hot and muggy day here in Perth ATM, so nice to see your cool pics! I might need these when I go to Canada next ๐
I've always been told high visibility was a good thing for a winter sports outfit ๐
I like those arm warmers.
And it must be quite a change in the weather for you, from heat wave to snow. I've never skied myself but on my last summer holiday (hiking in Austria), we stayed in an apartment which was rented out to skiers in winter. It had a sauna which did wonders for any muscle ages we got from hiking, so I think it should be recommended post-skiing as well…
You're going on a ski trip in the middle of summer?? *lol* Have a good time! The handwarmers are lovely!
I haven't been skiing (or snowboarding, in my case) for ages. I grew up with it, living a scant half hour away from the nearest medium-sized ski-region, but since moving to Berlin, I use my visits to my parents for other things than sportive endeavours… ๐
Oooh, hope you are having fun in Japan! Certainly looks like a winter wonderland. I love fingerless gloves. Have a few pairs. These pics look like they came from a professional skiing magazine!
Ooo I just love them gloves with that outfit. Too Cool.
Love the colour the pictures all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are so funny – I can just picture your arm poking out of the snow like a beacon. ๐ Love the colour; it's very bright.
