New jeans/pants/whatevs.
Burda 7863, stretch bengaline from Spotlight.
So. I guess that’s about all I have to say! I’ve made this pattern what, nine times now, I think. Speaks volumes. The colour is softly pretty, a nice and easy and inoffensive pale neutral. I love it.
Maybe they’re a bit boring? Well, they’re basics. Basics usually are. I’m sure they’ll get lots of use.
Eventually.
The nitty gritty, re my usual alterations and fitting:
Extra 10cm or so added to the length at the lower hem, just in case. I always pre-wash my fabric; and make up the pants to the hemming stage, then wash again, then hem. It really helps guard against leg-length shrinkage.
Another always-addition is to added a bit of length onto the waistband length at CF so as to accommodate a zip placket.
And my usual fitting alteration to accommodate my slight sway back is to try them on inside out BEFORE sewing up the CB seam including the waistband, and to pinch it in; as described and pictured here. Works really well for a really good fit, every single time.

Working on the outside is a good idea – for the crotch too.
Umm, I think I've done the technical comment before the aesthetic appreciation – the colour is great – as you say, will go with everything, and that is what a neutral basic should do. Great spring transition colour as well. By the way, I love your handknit – Noro make such beautiful yarns 🙂
No not boring but certainly practical. Pants are something I need more of as well but the fitting puts me off making them.
A beautiful fit and are sure to be in regular rotation.
I've made my fave trouser pattern up in various incarnations about 9 times too. Gives me a warm smug feeling! The latest in grey Spotlight bengaline! Makes me glad you're using it too – fingers crossed it wears well. The hemming tip is a great one, thanks!
I would love to know which trouser pattern you have made nine times, Fabric Tragic, it sounds like a good one! Do you have all them on your blog?
I just finished up two pair yesterday from a TNT. Just love it!!
I love everything about these. The color is a perfect neutral. Can be brought to life or toned down based on what it's paired with. Very nice!
Basics is good – then you can make all sorts of creative, patterned, funky, layered things to go with them. I am still on the protoype pair and getting to know my bottom! Jo x
They fit you very well – those are good tips for fitting and hemming. And I love the ocean in your photos today, what sparkle!
You are inspiring me to make many pairs of pants now! LOL I actually have a bunch of denim coming in the mail and I cannot wait to get started!
They look great on you! thanks for posting these TNT patterns. I find I wear my 'boring' stuff ALL the time. 🙂
Great tip on washing again before hemming – i'd never have thought of that! They look fab, and I am jealous for I am yet to master my crotch curve (ooh err!)
Nice pant… is pefect with your jumper !
Great fit and color! I am also filing away your hemming and fitting tips against the day I finally tackle making pants…..
Lovely, as always. I like the sweater, too!
"boring" makes like this get worn all the time! they look great.
Good looking pair of pants. The inside-out fitting idea is genius!
Excellent pants and they go so well with this gorgeous Noro sweater.
Yet another lovely pair of trousers! I'm about to start my first-ever pair of pants, so I'll probably refer back to your posts on this pattern for techniques–you've really got your fit down!
They fit you beautifully! I pre-wash my fabric too but never thought of washing them prior to hemming. That's a great idea!
I'm totally a novice seamstress and have barely ventured out from Jiffy Easy to Sew! But I'm coming here for inspiration and ideas. These pants fit perfect and the fabric looks great. I have a hard time finding pants long enough so I think making them will be a great idea.
the minute i saw your sweater, I thought "NORO!" Great use of the yarn, and the entire outfit just sings!
I love my neutral clothes – couldn't get dressed without them! Love everything in the photo – the pants the sweater, the beach, your hair… Never heard of bangaline – will have to look that up!
Your staple garments are never boring. I really need to get on with making more pants. These are great and as always look great on you!
Great staple colour jeans, you will get so much wear from them, perfect!
Nice fit and nice color. I can see the need to wash before hemming. I'll have to start doing that myself.
beautiful fit and great colour.
I love it!
