I found this post in my drafts, and came thisclose to deleting it but then hesitated… see, I stopped writing these 6 different ways posts because I started to worry they were boring
to anyone reading my blog. But then I just thought that was silly. Because you know what? I just kinda like them. I like looking back on my old daily outfits, seeing my old favourites, what worked and what didn’t… and this little yellow skirt was a goodie that I got a lot of wear out of before I dyed it a different colour. And I think I might even compile a second 6-different ways post in the future for its new caramel incarnation because it’s been equally fab as a caramel skirt too!
I made this skirt in yellow corduroy using Vogue 1247 and posted it here; and then proceeded to wear it A LOT, it seemed to work really well with a lot of stuff. These outfits are ranged from summeriest for the first picture through to winteriest for the last. It was better as a winter skirt, being corduroy, but was ok on cooler spring/autumn days too, when it made a nice sunshiny splash on a nice sunshiny day. I’m almost wondering why I dyed it!! but I just remember being a bit sick of it and since it turns out that I love it even more as a caramel skirt then I don’t regret dyeing it at all, of course! Although maybe, just maybe I need another yellow skirt in my life… *wink*

Most of these pictures are from a time before I was making my own shoes, however one outfit, the top right one with the orange top and blue denim shoes is an entirely 100% self-made outfit; since I did make those shoes! All items of clothing are made by me… I haven’t put in any links but any questions as to individual items seen in these pictures please ask in the comments and I will supply pattern information as required 🙂

I had noticed you’d stopped doing these posts, I can assure you I don’t find them boring! I like to see how handmade items are worn in real life (and follwed Me Made May for the same reason, even though I don’t have time to participate this year). A girl can never have too much inspiration!
thanks so much for the positive feedback Philippa! I early appreciated that. II’ll keep doing them then 🙂
I’m a new follower to your blog and I’m very happy you decided to post this as I’ve never seen any of your 6 different ways posts before! And I love your little yellow skirt (even though it’s now caramel). In fact, I might just have to make one for myself, I love a bright pop of colour in winter and I think yellow is such an underused colour. 🙂
Its an amazing shade of yellow, and works so well with your ‘wardrobe’, I love the way it pops with the blue and stripe top….. very sharp!
thanks eimear! 🙂 xx
I’ve never seen a 6 different ways post before and I like it!
These posts aren’t boring at all! As someone who constantly struggles with wardrobe cohesion, I’ve always enjoyed and been inspired by these posts of yours. Honestly, this was my favorite semi regular feature in my early days of reading your blog. So if you want to bring it back, I say go for it!
I love the 6 ways posts! It’s fun to see how you style your handmades.
thank you very much Lisa! :)xx
Count me in with the “I didn’t find them boring” crowd, in fact these posts are some of my favorites on your blog. And now I might need a yellow skirt…
I like these posts a lot. Identifying versatile pieces is important — especially when they may not seem that versatile at first glance. The color here might seem tricky but indeed it works so beautifully in your wardrobe.
I don’t have this pattern (it’s out of print, unfortunately) but I have a skirt of a somewhat similar shape that I wear a lot. My pattern didn’t have the clever pockets — well, it didn’t have pockets, and I only added one patch pocket — and that’s what’s made it less wearable than it could be. The pockets on this one are really cool.
I’ve always enjoyed your 6 ways posts. I hope you start doing them again.
thank you so much for the positive feedback Dawn; I think I will 🙂
I’ve been following you for a long time – and never found these to be boring. I’m horrid at putting pieces together in different ways, so I love the inspiration.
thank you Angela xx 🙂
I agree with everyone else–I’ve missed your 6 ways posts. I think coordinating outfits can be just as creative as making the clothes themselves, and I also really appreciate and enjoy versatility within a wardrobe. I strive for this myself, but you are a master!
thank you very much Kristin. I love seeing how others wear things in their wardrobes in different outfits too, so I think I’ll keep on doing them then 🙂
Hi, I really like you 6-ways posts! It’s always interesting to see how things are worn in real life.
How does the corduroy work with tights? Is it lined, or do you need to wear a slip? I was thinking about making a corduroy skirt for winter but I wasn’t sure how it would work with tights – I was worried it would stick to the tights.
Thanks Emily! This skirt is lined, with yellow satin; I haven’t always lined my corduroy skirts but they do always wear better when they are lined. Always a good idea for a winter skirt 🙂
I don’t find your “6 different ways” posts boring at all. Rather, the opposite. I like seeing the different ways you can wear the same garment. I tend to get stuck and wear a particular garment one way so it is refreshing to see your ideas and interpretations. It gets me to think outside the box a little.
I have that same Rachel Comey pattern and have made both pieces. I love seeing your versions of this pattern.
I was thinking the same thing as Megan – that yellow is truly an underused colour! And it can really brighten an outfit – snap your attention to it so if there’s something you want emphasized do it in yellow! I enjoy all all your posts Caroline – 6 different ways or not 🙂
thank you so much! 🙂
I like these posts. I fondly remember that little yellow skirt and it is nice to see it again.
You’re a really inspiring person and I never find your posts boring.
I missed these posts! Love the yellow skirt in all its incarnations and am now lusting after one!
I love seeing these posts as it reminds us all that most of our skirts can be worn many ways. I have also been toying with the idea of a yellow/mustard skirt as I hope it will go perfectly with my new tights and top, but not at the same time 🙂
Joining in the – I love these posts – brigade. You should definitely make another yellow skirt.
So I think that answers the question about whether 6 way posts are boring!
Love the yellow and I too like seeing ideas on how to put outfits together. I do a ‘what worked/what didn’t’ for my travel clothes too – I find it really handy to look back and see what I took and how it all worked together.
thank so much Mel! Do you have a blog? I’d like to check those travel posts of yours out! I always do the same thing after a trip, writing a summary post here on my blog and analysing my travel wardrobe, and always found it very helpful when it comes to packing for the next trip. 🙂
I love this post and enjoy your daily outfits. I remember you made some skirts from V 1247 and I especially love this yellow skirt.
Not boring to me either and it’s amazing how many different ‘looks’ a sweet little yellow corduroy skirt can become. 🙂
