Y’ello! Calling all sunbeamers 😀
I am taking part in the Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show! the brainchild of Melanie aka Miz Bagg at Bag and a Beret; and you can read the story behind the yellow skirt and its journey around the globe here; as well as find out how to sign up to join in the fun.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it … *dun! dun! dundundun! dun!*
I’m a tiny bit embarrassed at my unexciting styling of the skirt particularly when you check out how cool everyone else has done it! But I’m being true to myself: “pared back” is my thing and when it came down to how I would choose to wear it with no influence or comparing myself to others who have gone before me; then a basic white tee, on a beach, the Indian Ocean lapping at my heels, IS pretty much Me in a nutshell. The skirt is statement enough!
And I’m in my happy place, this particular beach is my very favourite beach of them all 🙂
Like everyone else I’ve added my own discreet little “I woz ‘ere” …
So, I am wearing another new thing here, actually there are two! other new things here made by me recently; the ivory Tshirt is view A of Vogue 8879 made in a soft cotton jersey from Spotlight. Pattern notes: the sleeves are cut on, making it a bit of a fabric hog. I might not make it again, or if I do I’ll probably modify it to have set-in sleeves, just like any old plain boring tee… o dear, another example of my boring-ness.
Oh, the second new thing: well, underneath the skirt I am wearing some new jeans, because it was only about 16C on the beach when I took these photos. Brrr! too cold for just a skirt! I’ll blog about those soon.
Later dudes!

ooo, we do live in a small world. I had no idea you were a sister of the traveling yellow skirt. I was just wondering where it was off to and there you are with it…poof. You do it proud with that magnificent backdrop, my goodness indeed. So glad it'll be graced with Handmade by Carolyn.
Carolyn, thanks so much for being part of the Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak show. The skirt looks gorgeous against that background of blue sky and water. You are absolutely right, you can't compare your styling of the skirt to those who have gone before, because it is about being true to your own vision, and it looks just as fabulous with a simple white t-shirt as it does with a fancy waistcoat or crazy red hat.
I hadn't heard of the traveling yellow skirt! I always enjoy your backdrop of your photos. Nothing is as beautiful as the ocean.
Very cool! I thought you might be a member of the Travelling Yellow Skirt group eventually. I like your styling – must agree that the skirt is really statement enough.
A it's a very good idea this yelow travelling skirt !! I love it ! Thank's to show us . KISS
Beautiful! Love the photo too.
I don't think this is boring at all!
Nothing boring about a bright yellow skirt and thank you for sharing the link of how others have worn this, it is amazing.
Just beautiful, Carolyn!
Not boring in the least! Your addition is perfect – your styling is elegant, strong, and quiet – as quiet as a screamingly yellow maxi skirt can be at least. Heh. Thank you so much for joining the Freak Show, Carolyn. I love that it graces the shores of the Indian Ocean. She needs a shrine how, so much positive power being poured into her. And the shirt you made makes me want to up my sewing skills. Look for my post on your styling soon.
I love the idea of the travelling skirt. You styled it beautifully – that ocean backdrop doesn't hurt, either. 😉
I'm not a fan of the phrase 'freak show' but the term 'mad women' comes to mind!
Splendid idea, Melanie, this traveling skirt thing, and you wear it well, Carolyn. Looking forward to seeing the next sewist take on the challenge. MimieauxSews
Sad to say that I contacted the link you provided and they said the skirt is now on it's way home and will travel no more. 🙁 Seems like it was an amazing project and wish I could have been part of it here in China! Great backdrop!
Oh, is that right? that is a bit sad 🙁 I'm actually sending it off to another lady in New Zealand now, so it's not quite finished its travels yet.
Are you sure? I can't believe it's world tour is ending until there's no one left that's interested. Perhaps they thought you were asking about VOGOFF submissions. That just ended because the zine hit the stands. I'd inquire again, just to make sure.
Oh beautifully styled Carolyn! What a lovely surprise for me to see the skirt in the hands of another sewer! Such a joy to see it work it's magic at a beach down under. Welcome to the traveling skirt sisterhood!
The skirt and the top are lovely. I'm impressed that you made that top, but then I have sewing avoidance syndrome so everything is impressive! That skirt has seen a lot of beaches – I think that's the perfect location for it!
Oh Carolyn, as everyone's saying, lovely is right – a beautiful addition to the TTYSFS Sisterhood!
Welcome to the Sisterhood! Honoured to have you as part of our story, and the skirt's story. I think you look wonderful, lovely and calm.
Ahhh, I'm soothed and uplifted by the positive ions in the sea air, and seeing you strolling along the beach. I'm so happy to meet you through this wonderful community of creative souls. I'll be back to visit. XXOO
Lovely!!! I enjoy following the yellow skirt so much! 🙂
love this idea! your ocean photos are beautiful. the perfect style accessory! i will have to follow this yellow skirt's travels as of now… and i just happen to be sewing a yellow skirt today before reading this post, so it's very apropos! 🙂
Hi fellow yellow skirt styler. Styling it the way YOU are is exactly what you should do. So did I. But I will admit I was also intimidated by the arty way the women before us had styled it.
You made very pretty pictures with it. And your T-shirt is craftmanship. It is not half as easy as it seems I know.
