paper doll project

I’m still doodling about with my paper doll project!   I didn’t put any pages in my blog during me-made May because it seemed kinda overkill, but I think for the sake of having it all here…
If you love looking at fashion-y sketches ala Fashionary, check out Sarah of Rhinestones and Telephones.  She drew beautiful sketches of her delightfully pretty and feminine wardrobe everyday for me-made May.

Stashbusting..
During the month of May, I used two plus two half lengths from the stash; my teal silk dress, and my paprika tights used a whole length each, and my striped Tshirt and black tights each used a portion of those fabric lengths… plus I refashioned one garment, and knitted a pair of winter gloves.  I’m back on track!

International Star Wars Day, hehe  ðŸ™‚
So, here I’m on my way out for a day of shopping, including a visit to Spotlight to check out the $5 patterns.  I bought one.  Very restrained, I thought.
Yeah.  (smile)  OK.
Now for the guilty confession; I’m a bit late with the report of my stash-busting pledge for last month… probably because it’s so embarrassing to admit that last month the stash did not diminish one little bit. In fact, it has er, expanded somewhat.  Expanded, considerably.
I made three items in April, only one of which was a bonafide stash-bust; my faux leather jacket.  My navy corduroy skirt was a refashion from January, but I’m counting it since I only just blogged it last month, and the “bossy” dress I’m just going to consider a completely separate thing apart from the stash-busting challenge.
And …  when I visited my parents for Easter, Mum gave me a rather, er,  huge pile of fabric, lovely fabric that had been set aside for me by a very generous friend who was cleaning out her stash.  So very kind of her.  So my stash has gained roughly something like ten new pieces of fabric of various sizes.
Lots of productivity is definitely in order  ðŸ™‚

27th March – 1st April
(I’ve pledged to wear only clothes handmade by me this year and to sketch my daily outfits in my Fashionary.  I’m calling this the paper doll project)

from left:
full moon top + little charcoal skirt, knitted green hoodie
white Tshirt + long layered lacey skirt, dk olive wool felt jacket
dark pink Tshirt + hiking cargo pants, handknitted socks, dk olive wool felt jacket
white Tshirt, hiking cargo pants, handknitted scarf and socks
linen army-style shirt, hot pink shorts, handknitted socks
charcoal/black stripe Tshirt, khaki hiking pants, handknitted socks

by the way, and I’m sure everyone is way smart enough to have sussed this out already; but just saying: when I draw my paper dolls merely carrying a cardigan as opposed to wearing it, that denotes that I wore it only for a small part of the day, like in the evening when it might be a bit fresh.
And: halleluia for fresh evenings  ðŸ™‚
And: sorry I stuffed up colouring-in my hiking boots.  Days 3, 5 and 6 here are supposed to be all the same shoes.  My bad.
And: well.  Can I just say; drawing lace to look anything at all like “lace” is flipping hard.

In stash busting efforts for March; I managed to whittle my collection down by another three lengths of fabric, woot!  Namely, the sand-coloured silk/linen for the knots dress, a length of emerald green corduroy, and the blue cotton denim for the bell-sleeved top.  Also kept up with my pledge to continue re-fashioning old unwanted textiles into new and useful things; by re-using the lovely wool felt from a long-unworn wrap to make my new cardigan/jacket thingy.

the paper doll project

26th February – 3rd March

Hello  ðŸ™‚
Tuesday night saw us back at the Quarry amphitheatre for take two of our picnic followed by the Ballet, after last week was rained out.  It was a wonderful night, easily my highlight of the week.  The performance was breath-taking.  We decided it was our favourite Ballet at the Quarry, so far.
My maxi dress was pressed into service again.  It was a veeery hot day, but this really is the best thing to wear to a summer evening picnic… you can scramble about on the grass setting up and distributing nibblies with absolutely no danger of flashing anyone!
So.  Le stash-busting, pour le February…
I’m doing OK here; since another old thing from the refashioning pile (Cassie’s jeans) was remade into something new and useful (a sunhat), PLUS four more pieces of fabric have winged their way from Le Stash to be transformed into usable and wearable garments during February.  Namely, my piece of Liberty, the silver seqinned fabric, the large leftover piece of grey jersey knit, and a small piece of pewter silk dupion.  And no new pieces of fabric have joined the flock.  Yay!  Obviously, the piece I am most thrilled to have used is the 2m of silver sequinned fabric… not only am I thrilled with the results but it was sure burning a hole in my conscience!
Actually, I’m kinda amazed that any sewing has been done at all, since I don’t feel like I’ve been very productive lately.  More like a sad, wrung out old rag. Thank goodness today is cooler.  I might actually get something done.
Talking of baking bread… oh, we weren’t?  Sorry.  But we are now, right?  ðŸ˜‰  Anyway; I discovered this little gem on youtube.  This gave the whole family a real laugh, so I hope you enjoy it.  For the record, my husband does NOT bake bread like this, more’s the pity….

Stuff

28th January-2nd February
(if you’re new, I’ve pledged to wear only clothes handmade by me this year and to sketch my daily outfits in my Fashionary.  I’m calling this the paper doll project)

Thank you for those nice compliments on my Aquarius dress  ðŸ™‚
It was pretty hot that day, but my photos can attest to how insanely windy it was at the same time…. ideal bushfire conditions.  Today is even more hot, but not a breathe of wind.  At least that wind keeps the temps down a tad… but I don’t know which is preferable; hot heavy stillness, or hot air blasting around?? tough call.
Whatevs; the paper dolls are trying to stay stylish but keeping cool is their biggest priority.
Summarising January’s stash-busting efforts…
Straight-up I have to confess to buying one new piece of fabric this month… but I’m not counting it since it is not for me and I have already made it up.  It did not even get to nod to its buddies in the stash before it was flung in the washing machine, on the floor, and chopped and stitched up.  Results will appear here soon.. when its recipient can spare me a minute for a photo.
I used the teensiest wee corner of a veritable king-sheet-sized piece of blue jersey to make 3 tester bras and my newest lingerie set, so no discernible dent was made in that, really (not a win).   However, I did use a piece of lace that has been languishing in my lace box for goodness knows how long (win!)  and I refashioned one garment, which is not reducing the stash, but still a good feeling (win!)  I came to the aid of another in reducing her stash; when I made Cassie’s sundress (a Good Samaritan win!)
Overall; four garment sized pieces of fabric have disappeared from my stash this month… so I’m counting myself fruitfully engaged in the Year of Diminishing the Stash.
Now: OK, I can barely contain myself any longer…. I’ve bought something rather exciting, and I’m simply bursting with how much I want to show it to you here; have been chuckling with glee ever since I took delivery!  but it will have to wait for a bit; for one big, very important reason.  Give it a week or so  ðŸ˜‰
