Silver skirt; 6 different ways

Fun times, styling up my own wardrobe!  For today I had a blast playing with the skirt I finished recently; skirt “d” from Unique Clothes Any Way You Like, by Natsuno Hiraiwa, made from a silvery grey crepe.  The loose swishiness of this skirt, the sleek unadorned styling, and the soft dove grey neutral colouring lends itself so well to many many pairings.  Although going by the looks I chose I think I’m too much in love with the paler neutrals in my collection right now, as they are so overly well represented here…  Whassup with that??  Slipping back into my old colourless ways…
Anyhoo, without further ado arranged here in order from wintery and through to summery;

At left, styled for wintery elegance; and at right, worn more casually with a fluffy cardigan and lace-up boots…

At left, a simple but smarter look suitable for the office (my “pager” is actually my camera remote, haha); and at right, just hanging out in ma hoodie yeah…

At left, worn under a light dress for softly pretty summery layers; and at right, tucked up under the armpits, the skirt transforms into a kinda dress!

And which look am I wearing for today?  Well today is quite warm, so I am sporting the last look.  As my underarm measurement is a little bigger than my waist measurement I had to undo the top button, but I like the look of this; more interesting than if all the buttons were done up.  It is amazingly cool and comfortable this way.  Just as a safety net I pinned it to my Tshirt on the inside, up under my arms, to ensure the skirt doesn’t slip down back to waist level…  Yaas, with my bust size this would be a distinct possibility…!
Thank YOU, o great inventor of the safety pin, for this stupendously wonderful gift to the sartorial world.
Which look here do you like the best?

14 Thoughts on “Silver skirt; 6 different ways

  1. Oh wow, what a fabulous skirt.

I like the first look! I'm really attracted to the look of a long skirt + a fitted tee. I read in a fashion mag recently that such an outfit could look either very chic or too Big Love. Your styling is definitely very chic!

  2. I like all your looks. Crazy idea – if you end up wearing the skirt as a dress (last picture), why not sew 4 buttons on the inside of the waist and make 2 detachable straps? Safety pins sounds like a possible ouch just waiting to happen. (Wouldn't want anything nasty to happen to you!)

  3. I like today's look! And look number 3. I can think of all sorts of ways to make this skirt…more colorful. What an excellent and versatile basic.

  4. I like nos 3 and 6 best. 3 very chic (again) and 6 cool and fun. I agree with Irene about the safety pins though. Sounds dicey!

  5. Love 'em all! You're so stylish, but I'd enjoy them even more with some colour! Although, you rock a neutral like nobody's business.

I too, heart safety pins. They're so versatile and helpful!

  6. I like #3. This is a great book. Are you lucky enough to read Japanese or have you figured them out from the pictures? I'm a little nervous about starting.

  7. Oh, I love it when people figure out how to wear an item differently than it's obvious purpose. You must be cool and comfy today! I like the first office look. Your hair is so nice and smooth! And I like sleek and simple. I like the first winter one too. Nice rosemary bush by the way. Mine died because we transplanted it to a new pot (the old pot was full of fire ants!) and it didn't like being moved. Yours looks lovely and lush.

  8. I think I like the first two best, namely because they have the most color to them! But they all look nice. I also like that you were able to pull off the skirt-as-dress look, because I never can!

  9. I love the huge variety you get with the 6 different looks. And a great skirt to start with in a lovely pale neutral. (You sure do get a lot of use out of a small handful of patterns, I notice … you aren't constantly breaking in new patterns, but using your TNT's. Great idea for great patterns.

  10. every time I see these posts I get all fired up to do something with my wardrobe. Moving back to UK in 3 weeks, and will have my full wardrobe to play with – yay! Came to NZ with carefully chosen clothing – I wonder whether I will wear many of my 'NZ' clothes when we get back to UK, given some of our experiences have not been entirely positive… I have a skirt that I considered wearing as a dress, but thought it might be a bit too 'out there' at the time. I might give it a go now- thanks for the inspiration yet again!
