A leopard print daughter…

We bought enough of this gorgeous leopard print stretchy stuff in lovely caramels and warm golden brown shades to make this little Cat-girl set; Cassie made the Tshirt herself, drafting her own design based on a Tshirt she already has and that fits her well, and I made the leopard print leggings using my own pattern.
The side and armhole seams of the Tshirt are overlocked, and Cassie hand slip-stitched the lower and sleeve hems, and the neckline down in place.
Theoretically, the leggings were made to my pattern and so fit me too, but I’m doubtful I have the edge factor to pull these off! … they will be living permanently in Cassie’s collection.

  1. wow that's a hot outfit! The print makes all the difference and it goes so well with the jeans skirt! It's maybe the prettiest animal print I've seen. Very feline indeed!

  2. Oh, I think that you could wear these leggings under a dark tunic or dress…it is just that she may not let you!

  3. I am in love with those boots! Like the leopard too, even though I'm not usually drawn to animal prints.

  4. I think you would look terrific with these leggings under a slightly more sophisticated length skirt, but I don't think you'll have any luck getting them from your daughter! The outfit looks great on her (and her skirt is perfect for her age). That is a particularly appealing animal print and excellent sewing. Does Cassie sew spontaneously? My daughters love the idea of handmade garments, but usually think I should sew for them. I will have to work on this.

  5. Wow! At first glance I thought the leggings were amazing tattoos. If your daughter won't let you borrow her leggings, you should make a pair for yourself.

  6. Great fun outfit for a teenager! I'm sure she will enjoy wearing it.

  7. Wow – Cassie looks great and I am sure she can wear both those separates in lots of different qays. Fab boots too. x

  8. I can only say one word. WOW. Full stop. Love this!

  9. Kbenco brings up a good question…

HOW did you manage to get your daughter sewing for herself? I have two teenaged daughters and neither has any interest in sewing (currently). They see me making clothing and they like it on me. I help them with any projects they initiate (pretty rare). I make them pj bottoms, but don't otherwise produce garments for them because I don't want to become their personal tailor. I do help them with mending/alterations on a limited basis. Any ideas?

  10. Wowza! Love it. You CAN pull off those leggings.

  11. LOVE those boots for sure. You could pull off those leggings but I bet you'd have to sneak them to get to! It is so great you are passing on your handmade legacy to your daughter, ha! I wonder really how many girls her age can slip stitch?

  12. Terrific outfit! Love the fabric.

  13. Looks great!
Me too – how did you get your daughter sewing? Mine definitely thinks of me as her "personal seamstress", though now that she lives far away, most of that has come to a stop.

  14. I remember when I was 18, my mom could wear my clothes — and I remember her borrowing my jeans at one point and thinking she looked better in them than I did.

I bet you could figure out a way to rock the leopard print — maybe not all over as the young people do, but … ? Then again, she may not let you borrow them back. Perfect for her!

  15. I love this outfit! the leopard print looks fantastic with the denim skirt and boots.

  16. Fantastic leopard print but as other people have said you may want to tone it down a bit maybe with a tunic and knee boots and perhaps not both pieces at the same time because even though teenagers can carry these trends off, their Mums should perhaps stay away. I think I would stick with the lovely white blouse, now that is a wardrobe staple!

  17. good to see the creative genes flow on – she looks great – I don`t think I would let her out ! Where did you get the fabric – was it local ??

  18. How lucky for your daughter to have so much help on hand. She is totally rocking this look.

The whole age appropriate thing is a tricky beast – what feels wrong to me is trying to look younger -the age denial thing, however, that is an attitude and impossible to define by hem length or plunge on the neckline – some women can do these things fabulously at any age because it suits them and their style.

There's no doubt you could pull off those leggings if you felt comfortable doing so – the question would be how to do it in a way that was part of your aesthetic.

  19. Your daughter has similar taste to mine. Very edgy, cute without showing a lot of flesh.

  20. Wow, she did a really good job on the t-shirt! Hand-stitched hem and neckline! You're teaching her well! 🙂 I'm sure you could rock the leggins with a grey skirt and boots! Her boots are lovely, btw…

  21. Very impressive work by your daughter. I never could have drafted a T shirt from a pre-existing pattern when I was a young girl. Hell, I didn't figure it out until 3 weeks ago.
