Ever since I found that runway shot from Celine with the floppy linen pants I have been slightly obsessing about them. Starting to think that I really needed some, that if I didn’t get myself a pair of floppy linen pants in my wardrobe that I just had absolutely nothing worthwhile to wear at all… I couldn’t go about my daily business… that everything was just going to self-destruct… Well, not the last. But definitely that a pair of loose floppy linen pants was kind of an essential, that I had to have, but now. Then I discovered that of course I already do have some. Tucked away, fairly floppy, and just begging to be worn with the loose white top, so I could look tres fashionable, just like in the Celine photo.
Ta da!
Problem solvered, crisis averted. Sometimes burrowing about in one’s wardrobe brings pleasant serendipitous moments, when an old garment is rediscovered and donned straight away with little cries of joy. Hello, old friends. You will be worn again this summer, promise.
And the white top, with the attached shoulder thingys. I tried tying them up today, sailor style. I like this way. Ahoy there, me hearties. No that’s not right. That’s pirate speak. Hehe. Ay ay cap’n. That’s more the go.
So although these pants are not super floppy, and are a sort of gun-metally bluey grey and I am really craving the wheat colour, I think for the mo’ these will be fine. I’m trying to work with what I’ve got here.
I wish I could make everything that inspired me. Too time poor, sadly. My sewing is always a compromise between filling gaps in my wardrobe, and more inspired projects involving fabrics and patterns that really capture my passion at that time…
Sometimes (often) I wish I had a more co-hesive colour scheme happening in the wardrobe, that I could just grab anything anything and it would all go together like a dream, because I was one of those wonderfully organised people who only shopped and sewed to a plan. But I’m not one of those people. Sometimes I wish I was, but I think I would probably get bored with my carefully planned and co-ordinated, perfectly matching wardrobe and just perversely get the urge to bust out with something random.
So I think I’ll just continue with the whimsical buying of fabric and yarn just because I see it and love it, that is not planned but passionate. And just make it work.

I love having things "in inventory" as my bf refers to it. And what a great pair of pants to have in stock. Wow. How could you forget a pair like that? The kind of thing I forget is a pair of humungous men's pants I bought at a yard sale for 50 cents, thinking I could reuse the fab… But now I'm getting obsessed about billowy flowy linen pants… Darn.
p.s. I got a new tripod, but have yet to try it … I gotta learn my self-timer… I can't wait to try some avant garde shots like you take.
YOU look better in the gun-metal trousers you've found than the model does. And this is a much more casual styling of them than you've previously done. I like. I like very much!
Gorgeous outfit love your top very fresh looking!
Awesome photo! Great combo – and if you're whimsical – stick to it – cause it works!
I like these bluey grey pants better Cap'n. Perfect for summer.. although linen is a pain to iron, and I hate ironing so I probably won't be looking for a pair of my own any time soon.
All hands on deck!

Another beautiful piece of linen clothing in your wardrobe there. I just love the color of these and the flowing shape. How could you have forgotten about these? You look fabulous in this outfit! I am with you on keeping my fabric buying passionate. I love to experiment with prints, color, drape. No matching wardrobe for me, but I do love to make complete outfits!
Your last 2 paragraphs – I could have written them, I feel exactly the same! I'm trying to plan my wardrobe and narrow down my personal style, but the inner me is rebelling!
Lovely trousers – I think they look better on you than the model too! And I really like the high-ish neckline with them, slightly dressier than the ubiquitous tank/singlet.
That outfit looks wonderful and makes me long for summer! I'm surprised you don't find your sewing cohesive; what I'm seeing is that you have a distinct style (loose, architectural detais/draping, neutral colors) that is recognizable in everything you sew. I would also assume that most of what you sew goes together.
I get what you're saying. I've been obsessing about pleated, pegged pants. In the end I became overwhelmed with everything I have to do before Christmas so I went and bought a pair, even though I almost never buy clothing. Your pants look great but I especially love that top!
Very chic and much better than the model.
Love your flowy linen pants! I made two pair for summer wear and found that I grabbed for them most of the time. Love, love, love!
It's funny that you mention planning and sewing. I have a master plan for my seasonal sewing most of the time, and find it's easier to fabric shop when I know exactly what I want to make. This, however, hasn't shrunk the size of my fabric stash. LOL
Oh, I often start with a plan of filling in a "gap" or making according to a color scheme, but always get carried away by what strikes my fancy. And now it seems that different colors strike my fancy at different times. Like now, I love brown and burgundy and purple, but before that it was blue and black and grey. So….?
I love this look, it looks so cool and comfy! How wonderful to find the perfect treasure already in your wardrobe…
Just looking at your pictures makes me feel a teeny bit warmer. It's nice to know that somewhere in the world someone doesn't have to don umpteen layers in an attempt to stay warm.
Shopping in your closet – now that's a wonderful way to keep on budget! Love those pants. Why is it that a few years back everyone was carrying on about pleated-front trousers being so horrid? I think that they're so much more comfortable than the super tight versions that were "in". So why did I get rid of all of mine?
Oh i love this, looks very feminine and soft – beautiful!
