Note; apologies for the latent loopiness of this post. Sombre, serious, meaningful and purposeful sewing and discourse thereof shall recommence in the near future…. or maybe not…
So, recently I was queued up in Spotlight and spotted some mini snowball-like bobble trim. … bobbles! so playful! sooo cuute!
I just absentmindlessly picked it up, and then I didn’t want to put it down again. Realised that I really really wanted, nay, needed, bobble trim in my life, like now.

See, I’m in the middle of making a monstrously involved, head-explodingly complicated costume for Comic Con… well never mind that right now. I’ve been working on it for what feels like forever but has only been a couple of weeks actually. #imgonnalookridiculous
It just felt so nice to indulge in making something super quick and easy as a wink, like this.
Anyhoo. 2m of very lightweight gauzy cotton muslin (Spotlight), always handy to have lots of this around, btw! cut in half down the middle along the grain line. I folded a skinny 3mm (1/8″) hem under twice around all edges and top-stitched catching the bobble trim underneath at the same time…

Done!!
Details:
Dress; Named patterns Inari tee dress, in red/white sweatshirt fleece, details here
Scarf; lightweight cotton gauze/muslin, edged in bobble trim
Red sandals/thongs; made by me, details here
location; playground at the Scented Gardens; South Perth foreshore
I have a new scarf, weeee!

What fun! ❤️
I was just going to post the heart, but WordPress told me my comment was too short – even when I added “what fun!” …hopefully it is long enough now!
thanks J! Yes, wordpress has that strange rule, I don’t know how to change it, sorry. thank you for your comment! 🙂
Bwah ha ha! This post has made my day 😀 Gotta love an easy win in the middle of all the crazy of a cosplay – I can’t wait to see what you are making!
hehe, thanks Amanda… your comment has made MY day!
Cute idea and pictures 🙂 Now I can’t wait to see the costume, hehe.
thanks Katharina! It;s finally finished and I will be posting pictures pretty soon 🙂
That’s a gorgeous scarf. I might have to copy that idea.
thank you Jean! it’s a nice quick-gratification project that’s just fun. And it’s hard to have too many scarves! 🙂
You’re so cute Carolyn! Bobbles aren’t generally my thing but I actually like them quite a bit in this scarf. The whole outfit is adorable.
thank you so much Masha! 🙂
I love bobble trim but never know what to do with it. Finally found a curtain project I can use yards and yards of red bobble trim. This is a wonderful idea for more!
You can get so many wonderful colours in bobble trim. I’m even wondering if I can get away with ANOTHER scarf!
You are such FUN!!! Lovely floaty bobbly trimmed scarf….. and how great that your playground area has some sort of shade covering over the slides! Better on the bottoms!!! 🙂
thank you Lisa! Yes, our sunlight is wonderful but pretty harsh, most playgrounds here will have some sort of shade 🙂
When you say you are creating, “a monstrously involved, head-explodingly complicated costume for Comic Con” I must tell you that I can’t WAIT TO SEE IT. 🙂 Love your scarf – I’m a scarf person too. I’ve been wearing a scarf for so long that when I don’t I feel cold 🙂 of course just finishing the worst winter on record here in Canada might also have something to do with it 🙂
thanks so much Kathleen! I’ve finally finished my costume and will be wearing it on the weekend, pictures will be coming very soon I hope!
Bobble away! I love it. Looking forward to your Comic Con make – my daughter and her hubster both do cosplay, go to lots of cons and fairs. Big one here is the San Diego Comic Con – is there one in AU? or will you be in San Diego?!
thanks coco! We have a ComicCon here in Perth once a year, I’m afraid I am not going to San Diego. I WISH I COULD!!
Oh, that is lovely! I am a scarf wearer too. We lived in Europe for several years and I loved buying scarves there. Now that we are in the U.S., I don’t seem to find the beauties like I did overseas. Maybe that means I should just make my own now!
thanks Shirley! The good thing with scarves is that you only need a small amount of fabric, so you can get the beautiful and expensive ones, and also they’re super easy,
I’ve worn a purchased white bobble scarf for years, I think its due for retirement. Have you ever been tempted by the bamboo gauze sold at Spotty? I used some for little baby mussies a while ago and keep meaning to dig out the end bit and make a scarf – might need to procure me some bobbliness too!
thanks Lesley! I have seen that bamboo gauze, it is rather divine. It might be fun to do some dyeing experiments with it too 🙂
Holy dingle balls, Batman! Hahaha! Love that scarf, and it’s something I could even do. Great location shot for this fantastic scarf as well.
thanks Melanie! I have no doubt the bobble scarf you make will blow mine right out of the water with insane creativity 🙂
What a fun scarf – I love it.
thanks Tomasa!
Cute little pom poms. Love your floaty scarf.
thanks Kathy! 🙂
You are so cute. <3
aw, thank you Amanda! 🙂
What fun! Jo xxxx
Soo, I thought the costume looked vaguely familiar. Like something from Zelda. (Spent at least a month of my life playing Zelda on the Nintendo.) I havent actually played for about ten years, but a little duck duck go search solved the riddle. Caroline, I think your costume is a Zora! (The game I played had a younger version of a Zora princess in it, and Link rescued her.) Your costume is lovely!
omigod, YES! Cheryl, you’re brilliant! also can I say I’m so glad someone even recognised it?! Yes, I too spent hours playing Zelda Ocarina of Time on the nintendo! My costume is a Zora, in fact I’m aiming for the Zora Queen Rutela, who is the ?grand-daughter? I think? of the princess Ruto you described in Ocarina of Time… I’m right now working on the headpiece which is a-blowing my mind in working out how to construct it… wish me luck!
Perfect and fun!
thank you Sharon! 🙂
