Hello 🙂
I’m still renovating my wardrobe… and can I just say, beige leggings, hmmm. (shudder) I’d taken a hearty dislike to mine over recent weeks. But they still had some wear in them. Wasteth not, wanteth not. It was really just the colour that had become offensive to my eyes. Corrective action was called for.
To the dye pot!!!
(spoken in the same tone as one says “to the bat cave!” of course!)
Before…
the transformative materials…
I used only a shake (that’s an official unit of measurement there) each of iDye in Brown and Chartreuse. Probably a pinch at the most, plus heaps of salt. Pinch, heaps; some other highly technical terms. Trust me, I’m an analytical chemist!
And now they are no longer hideous to my eyes, they have a new lease on life 🙂
my tutorial on dyeing
Details:
Leggings; self-drafted of beige cotton knit, dyed khaki, originally posted here
Tshirt; self-drafted, grey knit stuff, details here
Dress; the gathered hole dress from Pattern Magic by Tomoko Nakamichi, charcoal suiting, details here

I do prefer this colour and I understand your technical talk!
Love the new color! To the Vat Cave!
haha, to the vat cave… I love it!
Yep, tech talk is very understandable – new colour? Awesome!
I liked the old colour but the new colour is great too 🙂 Dying scares me, I had one go at it as an over enthusiastic teenager and it ended badly!
A couple of months ago I tried to dye a blouse…and it was a disaster!!!!!!! For me it´s very dificult to turn out the tone of colour you want.
I have got to try making me leggings! AND I want to learn to dye fabric so bad. You really inspire me. I just need to finish up all these sewing projects for my children so I have time to experiment for myself.
I love the new olive green color. You did a good work here 🙂
Cool, thanks for the idea. It's true that, most of the time, it's the colour that becomes faded more than the actual fabric becoming used, so it does make sense to dye. The colour you picked is so you.
Love that dress.
Sometimes I think we just get bored with things! The olive looks really nice.
Great way to save 'em!
Beige. My least favourite colour and it doesn't nothing for me, thankfully. Loving the new khaki pair. Dying is fun, a bit like a lucky dip, not sure what colour they will turn out to be.

I saw this dye in the fabric store the other day and now I want to try it. I will have to find some suitable fabric and start playing around.
Ah, nothing better than a dye job to give a new life. Love your pic of you and your dog on the beach!
I prefer darker legs too! Who knows why. Anyway I will be renovating for autumn soon. Summer has gone too fast here in the UK!
Love your new leggings! It's great to use a splash of color and give new life to a garment. I understand why you love it now!
The new shade of green is lovely!
I prefer the darker too. I only ever dye my jeans and forget that other garments can be dyed. Thanks for the reminder. As far as the technical talk…you mean that's NOT the technical terminology for dying garments? oh.
You forgot to say "SHAZAM" after To The Dye Pot. 😎
Love the new colour. I have got to start wearing leggings. Winter is coming and far sooner than I care for. Leggings are now added to the shopping list. Thanks Carolyn
You are reminding me that I can MAKE leggings not just buy them. Love the color result, it's perfect for our upcoming autumn.
love the new color, darker leggings seem to be so much more useful!
Looks and sounds good to me!
I have never owned a pair of leggings but after seeing yours I am going to have to give them a try. They look very fashionable on you, I just hope I don't look like a woman who wore the feet off her tights and couldn't afford to buy anymore.
I love the earthy color. We dye our blue jeans now, to get a little more wear out of them.
A mi tambien me encanta teñir la ropa, me parece genial transformarla con ayuda del tinte. Por cierto, me gusta mucho, muchÃsimo el vestido que llevas en las fotos.
Gosh, Batman and Robin made it to Australia? One does often say 'to the bat cave' of course… Will no doubt refer to your dying tutorial at some point when I want to mix up some French blue or taupe… Glad you were able to love your tights again.
