Brrr! it has been so cold lately!! and I have gleefully re-discovered my army jacket and been wearing it a whole bunch of times…  O how I love that thing!  It’s fabulous how I can slip it on over a little Tshirt or short-sleeved dress and it instantly renders any little summery thing winter-appropriate.  Big love for thick winter parkas.  And it has even been cold enough to get out that Granny squares skirt again, saving it from white elephant-dom 😉
We went to our sci fi do on Saturday night, and Servalan got out and about again and had intergalactic geeky fun… her first outing was to Supanova with future grrrl a few weeks ago.  This time Servalan let her hair down and boogied like a boss.  You know a party is running hot when the smoke detectors go off and the fire engine shows up!  Chewbacca hanging off of a fire truck is not a sight you see every day.

A few asked about Craig’s outfit… well I was all set and quite keen to make him something and then he decided to go as Neo.  Well do you know how much it costs to make a full-length leather coat, even a fake leather coat.  No? well twice as much as to hire it, that’s how much, and yup! I checked out the offerings and did the sums to find that out, and was just like, oh man, really?!?

Plus it’s important to be able to admit when a sewing project is going to be masochistically difficult and have a very small fun factor, yes?
So he hired one.   And looked tres cool…

  1. Sorry, had to delete as I had a spelling error – Eeeek.
I'm so glad to hear that you have a line that you draw when the sewing just wouldn't be fun enough 🙂 Craig looked very cool indeed, which is only apt given he was going with the uber cool Servalan.

  2. I wasn't going to comment on your "thick winter parka", but I can't resist (giggling here). I lived in the far north of Canada for ten years, within a 6 hour drive of the arctic circle. That isn't a parka lovely Carolyn, this is a parka. 😎

I was giggling because of our opinions on cold, when I lived in the far north, we regularly reached temps of -40 C (I used to walk to work) and the coldest I felt was -53. However, I am a total wimp when it comes to heat, when it gets above 30C I get irritable and whiny.

    1. hehe, I know, it's all relative! It never gets below zero here. So to clarify, my coat is fantastically warm "for Perth", and nicely snuggly for "our" coldest days. To be honest, even on the coldest days I can't wear it during my, admittedly brisk, early morning walk because it gets too hot!

  3. What a hoot! 'Boogied like a boss' is not a phrase I've encountered before and I had to look up Neo (thought I have heard of The Matrix). I loved your granny square skirt and had to forward the link to some friends in my WI craft group. At our last meeting one of the brave women attempted to teach granny squares to novice crochet-ers. I know the stitches but had forgotten how to make the squares…I'm almost tempted to do a skirt except I know it would suit me like it does you!

  4. It should have been fun! About the coat, I completely understand. I've been wanting to make a brown coat like Captain Reynolds' but I don't think it's worth it. Boo 🙁

    1. RebeccaHoward; no he has a
sai knife in each hand, just like the ones Neo is holding in the picture. They looked real but are just made of hard plastic and came from the costume shop too 🙂

  5. I love the sketch posts. I just bought a fashionary book and I'm considering altering the light figures so each is a curvaceous petite. What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts about this project-has it clarified your wardrobe? made you more adventurous? Cleared your closet of unwanted items?

    1. Mary; I think that's a great idea!
Personally, I am really enjoying the project and I think it has had a similar effect slightly watered down, on me as me-made May… meaning I wear more of my wardrobe and mix it up more. I sort have this thing about not wearing the same thing more than once per page.. silly I know but helps me branch out and not wear the same old thing over and over again, plus yes I have cleared some dodgy old things out of my wardrobe, so yes to all of the above!
Also I am really loving the few minutes of daily doodling and colouring in too, that's just a bit of harmless fun.
